CA school visits
Throughout the year, the Chief ALT Advisor will visit senior high schools in order to observe classes and talk to ALTs and JTEs. New ALTs will be visited in October, November, and December. Renewing ALTs will be visited in May and June. All base senior high schools should receive a visit once per year.
The purpose of the visits is to gather information about working conditions and teaching situations in Miyagi senior high schools, as well as to give teachers an opportunity to discuss their classes and receive feedback. It also allows schools and ALTs the chance to discuss any issues that are bothering them with the help of the Chief ALT Advisor.
The visits are not an official evaluation. Neither the ALT nor the JTE are assessed as part of the lesson observations.
The schedule for visits is normally as follows:
| 20 minutes before class | CA arrives at school and meets administrative staff |
| lesson | CA observes team-taught lesson |
| 30 minutes | CA discusses lesson with team-teachers |
| 15 minutes | CA talks with ALT about working situation |
The times above are guidelines, and it is not uncommon for discussions to go on longer. Lessons will be recorded for administrative and research purposes. If you have any questions or concerns about an upcoming school visit, please contact the Chief ALT Advisor.
